Day 8 - Makeup for Colored Photography

It's a culmination of everything we've learned so far. I think the one thing that was new to us was in doing makeup for colored photo shoots, foundation application should be a bit darker than the actual skin color.

The reason behind that is the makeup reflects light especially in front of a flash camera, thus making the finish look, look more natural because of the a bit dark foundation.

Day 7 - Makeup for Black & White Photography

I enjoyed the lesson today but it was the longest time that I applied makeup for a session. It's also the first time we had a photographer to show us the black & white effect on the LCD monitor.

Makeup for Black & White Photography basically applies intense dark makeup. In order for your makeup to be seen in black & white, just use dark colors like black & brown for shadows and white for highlights.

Because everything will turn black & white in the picture, why bother with colorful shadows. It saves thinking time of selecting colors and also the amount of makeup you would use.

The only reason that it took me a long time to achieve this look is I had to retouch and retouch to get that effect and also to make everything look balanced.

Day 6 - Smokey Eyes

Smokey eyes is basically a use of just 1 dark shade of eye shadow (black, dark blue, everything dark) and blend, blend, blend it out to achieve a dark-medium-light shades starting from the lids going outwards.

I used dark purple here, although it looks like dark gray on the picture. I should improve more on the blending to make the look more balanced. The left and right lid doesn't look exactly the same. So I should practice some more. Because the focus of this look is all about the eyes, using a nude or light shade of lipstick and blush is recommended.

Day 5 - Night Makeup

On to the 5th day of Makeup Artistry class. We have a new instructor starting today, Ms. Mikee. Her explanations on how to do the whole makeup look was also as clear and concise as our last instructor Sir Mio. Here is the demo that she did for us today.

It literally shows the before & after look. ( It's actually a bit funny to look at with the side of the face undone hahahaha. )

Now, here is the overall look that I have done for today's lesson.

My model for today is actually a co-worker or co-teacher of one of my classmates in class. So, thank you Teacher Angeli for coming to be my model and thanks Diane for calling her.

I wanted to go for a bright-eyed party look for her to make her eyes bigger and lighten up the eyes. I used silver for the light tone, a kind of electric blue for the medium tone and just a hint of black for the dark tone. I also used false eye lashes for the first time and I was having a hard time putting it on and making it stick >.<!!  I had to do it over again and again like 3-4 times for each eye. Anyway, got to practice on that one ( must buy falsies next time ). For the contour, we were told to intensify it so that it can be seen for night lighting setups like a bar, restaurant, hotel, etc. I chose red for the lips....for a night-out, red lips is definitely IN!

I'm very happy with what I did and I hope I get to do this kind of night look again for somebody else soon.

See you next week!!

Day 4 - Maquillage du Jour (Day Makeup)

Last Saturday was our Day 4 in Makeup Artistry Class.

I was excited to do this look because this is the usual makeup I wear myself. I was a bit surprised that my model, Rachel, is the model I worked with last meeting. And what added more to the shock is her big, a bit bleeding pimple on the bridge of her nose. Wow....I was already thinking that that's gonna be a problem. I know that I could cover it liberally with a full coverage concealer but I was not sure of that. I have an uncle who is a dermatologist and he would professional recommend not to put too much makeup on the pimple coz it might irritate it further. I didn't want to do something like that to her face so I opted to a bit light concealer and foundation that's why it's still a bit seen in the picture.

Next week will be the night look and I'm also excited to do that with my new friend Joyce as my model.

Day 3 - Eye shapes correction & their corrective techniques

Day 3 of class was all about the eyes. There a lot of eye shapes for every person. We discussed 7 distinct types of eye shapes and also a possibility of combinations from these 7 types of eye shapes.

1. Heavy eyelid
2. Prominent eyes
3. Small eyes
4. Very small eyelid-eyebrow gap
5. Very large eyelid-eyebrow gap
6. Eyes too close to each other
7. Eyes too far apart

We were also taught 2 eye makeup techniques which are open corner and close corner eye makeup. Open corner is putting medium to dark eye shadow on the crease of the eyes without touching the tip of the inner & outer corner of the eyes while Close corner is putting medium to dark eye shadow on the crease of the eyes until the tip of the outer and/or inner corner of the eyes. We also tackled on how to put colors and their proper combinations on each type of eye shapes.

Our instructor demonstrated the lesson with a model in this picture.

My model has a combination of small eyes & very small eyelid-eyebrow gap. What I did here is put on a light cream base and light pink shade all over her lids. I used the open corner technique and used a brown shade just above her crease where here eye socket is located. I only applied a light amount as I'm after a Day makeup effect. I added just a little bit of plum over the outer edge of the brown blending it towards the middle. I used a fine line of brown eye liner on top and below her eyes & white eye liner on here bottom waterline to brighten and enlarge her eyes. Black mascara, light coral blush and pink lipstick to finish it off.

I'm still having a bit of a hard time doing the eyebrows but I'm getting there hehehehe. My newest challenge for the day was applying the eyeliner and using the eyelash curler on someone else. I'm a bit afraid I might poke her eye or pinch her eyelid while using the curler. I was successful in using the eyeliner but not so much on the curler. I think her lashes wasn't curled enough.

Oh well, I'm just gonna work on it! Good luck me! (>.<)

It's always been a hobby of mine to do make-up on myself and trying new techniques that I have learned via youtube tutorials. I always subscribe right away to the channels that interest me regarding make-up or even hairstyles ( I love playing with my hair that's why I always wear it long >.<).

There have been a few times that I even offered my meager skill in hair and make-up to my close neighbors for their formal event....and one for their daughter for a cosplay event for free ( that was super fun to do hahahaha ).

These are my two lovely neighbors >.<
( Shout out to Ate Arlene and Tita Susan )

I did their looks last year for a formal event that I forgot what that is hehehehe ^_^

These were taken last year.

Then, I thought........I might also make a career out of this but I think I need some formal training....hmmmmmm......so, let the research BEGIN!

Finally, I found Maquillage Professionel in the internet that offers a lot of modules that teaches make-up artistry from learning personal make-up to airbrush make-up and the like. It's the nearest school from my place ( I'm from ParaƱaque City) and the school is only at Bonifacio Global City....so, why not!

Let's go!!!!

DAY 1 & 2 @ MP

We were introduced to the proper products and tools that are used in make-up. First lesson was about prepping the skin and achieving a flawless look, so no eye make-up here yet. Just getting down how to apply the concealers, foundation, contouring, blush and lipstick.

This is my first model for the first day....sorry I forgot to ask for her name hehehehe. I had a bit of difficulty in applying and perfecting her eyebrows....I'm really not used to it I guess >.<

This is for the second day. Thank you for being my model Joren ^_^ Topic is still the all natural look.

I'm so excited for the next class next week. ^_^
